Retire By 40’s May Blog Statistic and Income

{ 26 comments }

May 2011 was our best month ever!

Baby RB40 turned 3 months old and he is a lot easier to deal with than before. He still needs constant attention, but at least now he sleeps up to 6 hours at night. I can concentrate a bit more on the blog and I think the content is a bit better than when I was so tired all the time.

Here is the our statistic from Google Analytic

May 2011 Google Analytic

Referring Sites

We had a big uptick in referral traffic this month thanks to our friends at

Budget Are $exy – J$ is always entertaining. He is a great role model for someone who wants to quit the day job and make his living online.

The Passive Income Earner – Excellent information on dividend investing.

Young & Thrifty – Y&T is a Gen Y blogger that give me a glimpse into the younger generation’s mind. 🙂

and more.

Keywords

Our best keywords are “retire at 40” and “retire by 40”! A lot of people must be thinking about early retirement as they near 40.

Income

As for income, we are still small time.

Google Adsense – $25 It’ll take a few more months before we get the $100 check. Hopefully we’ll pick up more clicks every month!

Paid Post (I wrote a post for another website) – $25

Sponsored Post (A post at Retire By 40) – $75 ($45 payment still pending)

Total – $125

That meet my goal of $100/month for now. Yippee!! 😀

Plan for next month

  • I’ll finally invest more in Retire By 40 by getting a nicer banner and logo.
  • I need to figure out how to contact advertisers. Up to now I’ve only been working on the blog and waiting for advertisers to contact me. It’s probably time to go out and seek some sponsors.
  • Sign up to host more Finance Carnivals. This is probably the best way to build links.
  • Come up with some idea for a niche site or two. From what I read, niche sites are the way to make money on the internet.

Lastly, Thank you to all the readers who stopped by! We really appreciate you! 😉

You’re on the right track in growing your blog RB40, keep it up!

  • cashflowmantra June 4, 2011, 3:45 am

Those are some incredible traffic statistics. I think you definitely have what it takes to build up a few niche sites in order to add to your income. Good luck on that venture and congrats on hitting the $100 target for the month.

Thanks! I think we got lucky in May with a lot of referrals. We’ll see if it continues in June. I heard it’s slower in Summer as well so I don’t know…

Great stats RB40! Looking forward to the new design!

    • retirebyforty June 4, 2011, 10:43 am

It’ll probably take a while, I’m just starting to look into it. 😉

Nice work, you’re doing the right things! Getting that organic google search traffic’s a
    Big success factor!

    • retirebyforty June 4, 2011, 10:46 am

Thanks! The SE traffic actually went down quite a bit in May. In April, we had 43% SE traffic, but a lot less visits overall. I guess we’ll keep at it. 🙂

Great work! Your first $100 month is the hardest, and it’s all downhill from there. Keep at it.

  • Crystal June 4, 2011, 9:25 am

Way to go! Good luck for June!

  • LifeAndMyFinances June 4, 2011, 10:02 am

    • retirebyforty June 4, 2011, 10:47 am

  • JT McGee June 4, 2011, 10:26 am

    Nice work!

A new logo will definitely help you build your traffic. Like the other commenters, I’m excited to see how it looks with the new logo.

Congrats on your growth and hitting your goal. I’m watching my stats, for socialdeal.net, everyday too, it’s new still have yet to hit the AdSense payout threshold like yourself.

If you aren’t already aware of 99designs.com check it out for your logo, it’s a great resource to get quality logo and design work done (it’s a crowdsourced design site), I’ve used it for a few sites in the past.

    • retirebyforty June 4, 2011, 10:26 pm

Thanks! I checked 99designs.com and they seems pretty expensive. Google Ads will have to do a lot better than now!!!

  • krantcents June 4, 2011, 4:53 pm

Congratulations! You are way ahead of me, I have not collect ed a nickel yet!

  • Little House June 4, 2011, 5:19 pm

You’re doing great! It also helps that your blog name is a key search term people are looking up. 😉 Who doesn’t want to retire by 40?

As for seeking out advertisers, don’t forget to check out the Yakezie forum and sign up for some campaigns. It really has helped me boost my ad revenue.

    • retirebyforty June 4, 2011, 10:27 pm

haha! Thanks! I’m looking out at Yakezie and need to find more leads somehow as well.

  • Spruce Up Your Finances June 5, 2011, 1:13 am

You’re doing pretty good. Great stats! Having a diversified options for advertising is a great way to increase revenues. It is really hard to rely on Google ads alone as the main source of advertising revenues nowadays, although there are still a lot of websites that made tons of money on this. People who usually click on Google Ads are usually referred by search engines since your normal readers are probably immune on this.

  • Amanda L. Grossman June 5, 2011, 7:55 am

Great job on reaching your goal, and that is wonderful your 3 month old is sleeping 6 hours at a time.

We’re in the middle of a master bathroom renovation and a small bathroom renovation (most of the work DIY except plumbing/shower stuff), and I can’t wait to be able to just write on the weekends again:).

  • Financial Success for Young Adults June 7, 2011, 10:00 am

Really nice traffic! I would think that retiring by 40 is a goal for many. I’ve figured that if I can put aside about 600 every month and earn 11% a year tax free (so mostly roth and put the rest in munis) I will be able to retire by 42.

    • retirebyforty June 7, 2011, 1:00 pm

Thanks! Good luck with your plan. You have a great head start because you know so much about investing already.
