We’re still relaxing on the Big Island. It’s very laid back here and that’s just what we needed. Here are just a couple of pictures for everyone on the mainland.

Woohoo! We found the sea turtles along the Kiholo Bay north of the Kona airport. The great thing about Hawaii is that the beaches are all public. Even if a big resort hotel is built up around the beach, they have to provide public access. This beach is next to the Four Seasons and we were able to visit without any problem. We also saw a small eel, sea urchins, crabs, fishes, and sea cucumbers right along the beach. Jr. spent the morning beaching combing and found many interesting shells and rocks too.

This great restaurant is hidden away among the souvenir shops in a little mall along Kailua Bay. My favorite item was the tender beef sate. The paw paw chicken, veggie special, and spiced pork were pretty good too.

That’s it for Kona. We’re heading out to Volcano for a couple of days tomorrow. That should be a lot of fun too, but we’ll miss the beaches.

The Big island is my favourite place in Hawaii. We’ve been 5 times.

Very cool to see your adventure. My wife and I just took a trip to Honolulu. With points/miles we only spent about $50 in hotel and airfare. We did spend about $800 in food and excursions, but we justified that spending because of how little we paid for travel expenses.

Do you have a set budget while your down there?

Hawaii has some of the best eating. Lots of great foods you do not see most other places. A mixture of many different cultures, all combined.

Many people do not know that at one time, the largest cattle ranch in the US was on the big island. And they no longer grow pineapples there…

I too am enjoying Hawaii right now. Go kayaking out to captain cooks monument and hike the black and green sand beach.

It’s awesome there. We didn’t hike much this time because we had 2 young kids with us. We’ll have to do it next time.
