Free ticket to the season opening game!
YES! Corporate is sponsoring some NBA tickets so I put my name in the hat and won one. I’m going straight there after work because I’m hoping they are giving away some stuff tonight.
I love freebies. I always keep an eye out for free entertainment. There are always lots of local events going on in the Summer, but now that we are well into Fall, things are drying up.
Here is a site I just discovered this year for free theater. The tickets are for shows in October. We saw Ah Wilderness! and Alexander & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day at two small theaters. We hadn’t been to these theaters and will probably patronize them in the future. There are still one or two shows left this weekend.

I get 99% of my books and DVDs from the library. This is not quite free, as I just voted yes on the library bond. I love the library because it is such a great resource for the community.
This post is a bit of a fluff piece because I’ll be at the game until 10pm and won’t be able to do too much blogging tonight. 
In any case, my philosophy is don’t pass up freebies. It has become a habit for me to search for free entertainment, and this is good training for retirement!
Talking about freebies, the 401k match that you get from your work is a huge one so don’t pass it up. I’ll write a series next week to go over the 401k from a salaryman’s point of view.

*late night update*
WooHoo!!! The Blazers won 106 – 92. Both team were pretty rusty and defense was soft all around, but we pulled away at the five minutes mark and put the game away with a 16-1 run. I haven’t been to an opening night game before and it was pretty exciting.

We use library for DVDs. I used to get books from the library too but then I got Kindle. So, now I am Kindle obsessed and it does cost me some $.

Free is good. Kind of like how Michael Douglas said in the original Wall Street: “Greed is Good”. I substitute “Free”, eliminate the “Greed” part, and it’s all good:)
Hard to imagine the NBA season is upon us already. The weather just changed, here in Chicago – we went from 70′s to 50′s abruptly, so I guess that’s a sign that winter sports are back, and cold is around the corner.
401(k) match is the best freebie I can think of. Better than free gumballs!

I liked your “fluff” article mention about the libraries. They are very good for the community, and it’s amazing how much more you can learn sometimes by picking up a book instead of typing it into a search engine. Plus, libraries were originally created so that the masses had access to books when they couldn’t afford to purchase them. Who says that this is not still a real problem for a lot of people? Being able to rent books helps you become more educated and save for your future. It’s a win-win!

@Jessica, Libraries are great! I voted no for pretty much all the other bonds this year. We can wait a couple of years for new fire trucks.
